M[(ay) eye]ask

The life changing covid season invited us to make certain changes in our lifestyles, to say the least. With all these changes, the one that struck me most was that social distancing turned into emotional distancing. We’ve grown farther apart with the justification that we cannot be close to each other, physically. I’ve noticed that even eye contact decreased, communication in public has virtually diminished. This project brings back the faces behind the masks, the eyes that tell the stories. Approaching people has been a challenge in itself, and the reward equally uplifting.

Me: “what is one major thing you learned about yourself during this pandemic?”

Kathleen: “how precious life is. In every way. Spiritually, physically, health wise; especially health wise. Once you have your health you have your wealth, and it breaks my heart to know that we’ve lost so many people and I do believe that so many good people and their spirits and I pray that their spirit moves on and that the souls find their ways, and that people find happiness and health.

Me: “How did you take care of yourself during this time?”

Kathleen: “it was very difficult, I was actually getting over a fractured shoulder, I had been attacked, so I’ve been suffering a fractured shoulder and I was in my house for four months. So I didn’t get proper vitamin D or C, because I didn’t know and then I went to, well the doctors were closed and I  was afraid to go to the hospitals, and then a pharmacist actually said to me you have to really pump up on vitamin C and D.

Me: “What did you do take care of your soul? For your soul?”

Kathleen: “For my soul.. prayer, meditation, I even went back to (taking) bubble baths, for the meditation and just like serenity. And aqua, water is the best. Hydrate yourself.
